The night starts with an introductory dance class for swing basics by Brooklyn Swings, who teach at our loft every Monday night. Live music until 1am by Svetlana & The Delancey Five: a “very sweet & naughty” (Jazzlives), “energetic” (Wall Street Journal), “delightful” (WRHU Jazz Radio), and cinematically handsome Golden Age-inspired sextet. Burlesque fabulousness during and between, by Pandora Burlesk and The Incredible, Edible, Akynos. Sweet remixed vintage beats after, until the dancing is done, by Dj Shakey.

Springtime Swing at the Easter Parade
Dan Levinson is a very good egg. For the last two years he’s brought us bands that just can’t be beat, and we are eggcited to welcome him back this year. Even the most hard-boiled spectator will have his sunny side up after a few bars of this band’s music. Omlette you all join us, if you want–just remember to shell out a few bucks for the musicians. That’s all, yokes!
Remember that our band is busking, so we will pass our (well-decorated) hats every few songs and collect tips from spectators. And do show the band your own monetary appreciation for their nice work as well!
The parade starts at 10 am, but the band will busk from 12-3 pm. We’ll meet at the corner of 54th St. and 5th Ave., however, please note that we may change our starting location, depending on where other bands set up. Someone will update the event page, but if you don’t see us, wander up and down 5th Ave (just the parade route’s 8 blocks from 49th Street to 57th Street) until you do.

Feedback request

While I know this is my blog, and I can include what I want to… I want this to be as useful to the community as possible and the best use of my time.  I’ve discussed this in a small circle of dance friends, but want to expand the circle for greater input.

I use my dance budget on primarily lindy events, so I don’t attend fusion dances.  Your input is appreciated.

Thanks!

A Lindy Memory…

If you haven’t seen this video before, please check it out.  This blog is followed around the world, so please share within your local lindy scene.  This post is in tribute to a dear friend who conceived and co-choreographed/directed this flash mob and introduced me to the Lindy Hop.  If you can, please click through and watch it on YouTube, I’d like to see the view counter rise.  Thanks.
